Enhancement of the quality and added value for numerical simulations

The proliferation of numerical analysis tools including commercial codes and progress of high performance computers has lead to the widespread use of numerical analysis in research, design, and development. Under such circumstances, the main issue in applying the analysis technique and expanding its usage is the appropriate selection of parameters and settings, such as initial/boundary conditions and physical models.

Therefore, in this study, we aim at promoting the effective utilization of analysis results and ensuring their application at the design and development stages. This is achieved by firstly developing tools to quantitatively assess the uncertainty of analysis results caused by, for example, the setting of computational conditions; and secondly, by creating guidelines to maintain the divergence between actual phenomenon and analysis results due to the selected finite difference method and the computational grid within an allowable range.
