Optical measurement technologies
Installed inside JAXA 2m x 2m transonic wind tunnel is NASA CRM (common research model) for wind tunnel testing technology. The right main wing was painted with pink pressure-sensitive paint (PSP) and the left main wing with yellow temperature-sensitive paint (TSP). These paints emit red luminescence when exposed to laser light. By measuring the variations of their luminescent intensity using a camera, detailed pressure and temperature distributions can be acquired.
